Yo Vengo a Ofrecer Mi Corazón | Alejo Villarroel
“Yo Vengo a Ofrecer Mi Corazón” was composed by Fito Páez, and it’s a song that has kept me company for many years. Its message of hope reminds me of the strength of the Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo, who continue to offer their hearts in the search for the identities of those who were disappeared during Argentina’s last military dictatorship. Thank you so much to all my friends who made this possible — and to all of you for watching. English subtitles available. ¿Cómo Hago? Arranged and Bass by Alejo Villarroel
This was one of the two songs composed and sung by Emma Where in a concert showcasing original music of Latinamerican students, produced by the Latin Association of Berklee Students. The arrangement intention was to transfer the elements of the electronic production of the original song into an organic instrumentation: Large rhythm section + violin, cello + flute, flugelhorn, trombone.

[00:00 - 2:16] Las Voces de Los Míos: A Caf show produced alongside my friend Paula Srur Carcar where we showcased several music styles and composers from Argentina, including tango, folkloric music, rock, neo soul, amongst others. Here I was an arranger, bass player, music director and pretty much whatever needed since we had a cast of +15 people and again, all student-run with no fuding whatsoever. We had special guests for this show including a bandoneón player who flew in from LA. [02:17 - 2:55] Alejo Villarroel Group: My personal project where I play my arrangements and compositions. Here I also occupy all the stages of pre, post and production. This including mixing, video editing, getting the players, venues, studios, etc. We played mostly Argentinian traditional and not that traditional music with a jazz and modern vocabulary and sometimes including social justice and anti-dictatorial political messages. [2:56 - 04:38] Hits & Heat: Another concert produced by the Latin Association of Berklee Students every summer where we showcase contemporary urban music of the Hipanic, Latino and Brazilian culture. Representing musicians such as Bad Bunny, C. Tangana, Rosalía, Bizarrap, Peso Pluma, Shakira, etc. In these concerts I've been the Music Director, Overdubs producer and bassist, rehearsal planner, arranging supervisor, conductor, executive producer amongst other tasks. All of the productions featured in this 2nd video were fully student-run with no funding whatsoever.

[00:00 - 2:53] Ídolos Latinos: A show produced by the Latin Association of Berklee Students every year. This show is arranged, directed, produced, performed and delivered 100% by students. It's probably the biggest student-led show at Berklee and it's a huge event for the Latin community. Each year between 10-12 idols from all over Latinamerican are represented in this show. That particular year we had a cast of +80 people with 0 dollars funding and we managed to put together this beautiful show with a large rhythm section, horn & string sections + special guests and dancers and we played different styles that represented our culture (from traditional folk music to salsa and conteporary reggeatón). I had the honor, pleasure and challenge of being a part of the Music Direction Team and curate the set list, choose the players and singers, conduct, arrange, revise arrangements, rehearsal planning and overall executive production, again all fully student-run and with no funding whatsoever. [02:53 - 3:32] Latinoamérica VIVE Fest: A showcase of original music from Berklee students of the Latin community. Produced by professor Nando Michelín and the then student Miguel Morales I had the pleasure to be both an arranger and bassist, also working closely with Miguel & Nando as an Assistant Music Director. My tasks here were conducting, rehearsal planing, supervising arrangments and overall executive production [03:33 - 5:14] Heroes & Villains Reimagined: A show produced yearly by the CWP chair Amparo Edo Biol and the CWP Dept. and directed by professor Alex Clements and the Assistant Chair of CWP Yoshie Nakayama. Here I was one of the Assistant Music Directors for the show and my tasks were supervising arrangements, conducting, conducting and arranging tutoring for the student writers and rehearsal supervising.

Arranger Reel | Alejo Villarroel
This a summary of some of the arrangments I've worked for Berklee Faculty productions, student-run productions and also for non-Berklee productions. A quick overview with timestamps: [00:00 - 00:22] ¿Cómo Hago? (Emma Where) - Composed and sung by Emma Where | Instrumentation: Large rhythm section + violin, cello + flute, flugelhorn, trombone. [00:23 - 00:54] Can't Let Go / Fly Like A Bird Medley (Mariah Carey) - Sung by Talima Cirili at Singers Showcase 2024 | Instrumentation: Large rhythm section + BGVs + horn section + tracks. [00:55 - 01:32] El Amor Después del Amor (Fito Páez) - Sung by Rana Osorio at Ídolos latinos 2024. The intention of this arrangement was to represent other songs of the composer by hiding melodies and elements throughout the arrangement | Instrumentation: Large rhythm section + BGVs + large horn section + string section. [01:33 - 02:02] Yo Vengo a Ofrecer Mi Corazón (Fito Paéz) - Sung by Valentina García. The intention of this arrangement was blending rhythms and genres from South America: Argentinian chacarera, Venezuelan merengue and Colombian Currulao with a strong socio-political message | Instrumentation: Rhythm Section + Clarinet. [02:03 - 02:25] Vení Mirá (NAFTA) - Sung by Felipe Vallesi. The intention of this arrangement was showcasing two songs of the Argentinian R&B Band Nafta at a Caf Show of Argentinian music | Instrumentation: Rhythm Section + BGVs + Tenor Sax. [02:26 - 03:12] Llamado de Emergencia / Lo que pasó, pasó / Ella Me Levantó Medley (Daddy Yankee) - Sung by André Díaz, Laura Rouge and Cas. The intention of this arrangement was showcasing the repertoire of the Reggaetón icon Daddy Yankee. I'm submitting the MockUp since I don't have the recording of the show | Instrumentation: Rhythm Section + BGVs + Horn Section. [03:13 - 03:40] Cheek to Cheek / Let's Face The Music & Dance Medley (Irving Berlin) - Sung by KIQUE & PARIJITA at Great American Songbook concert 2024. The challenge of this arrangement was to make work two contrasting songs going back and forth from one to another and to make work keys for both singers smoothly. [03:41 - 03:59] O Tempo Não Pára (Cazuza) - Sung by Manu Xavier at A Night in Brazil 2025 | Instrumentation: Large rhythm section + large horn section. [04:00 - 04:26] Maldivas (Ludmilla) - Sung by Giovanna Cunha at Hits & Heat 2023 | Instrumentation: Large rhythm section + BGVs + large horn section. [04:27 - 04:50] Buenos Aires (Nathy Peluso) - Performed by Eleva Big Band (Argentina). The challenge was to combine the elements of the original and live version for this tune and adapt the arrangement to a big band whose players have all different levels of experience and skills | Instrumentation: 4 flutes + 5 saxes + 4 brasses + rhythm section. [04:51 - 06:51] A Don Rosa Toledo (Ramón Navarro) - Sung by LEIA. The challenge of this arrangement was to combine two different traditional rhythms from South America: Argentinian Zamba and Peruvian Landó | Instrumentation: Rhythm section + horn section.
